ABOUT JENN
Originally from Merrimack, NH, Jenn began playing trumpet in 1999. She was enthralled by the versatility of the trumpet and how many different sounds and feels could be produced on the horn.
In 2007 Jenn received the "Clark Terry Oustanding Musicianship Award" at the Clark Terry UNH Jazz Festival. She also received the "Louis Armstrong Jazz Award" from Merrimack High School in 2008.
After receiving a North American Scholarship tour award in spring 2008 she is now attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and pursuing a dual degree in Trumpet Performance and Jazz Composition. She is studying privately mainly with Tiger Okoshi and also works with Phil Wilson. Additionally, she has brass received instruction from Charlie Lewis, Christine Fawson, Jeff Stout, and John Faieta.
She has performed with Lalah Hathaway, Paula Cole, Ben E. King, Lew Soloff, Ingrid Jensen, Arturo Sandoval, Kendrick Scott, Kirill Gerstein, Anat Cohen, Simon Shaheen, and many more.
In March 2011 Jenn received the "Phil Wilson" award.
In February 2011 she was 1 of 3 finalists for the "Al Natale Brass Scholarship".
In May of 2010 and 2011 Jenn received "Outstanding Scholar awards" from Berklee.
In October 2010 she collaborated with the innovative, award-winning Cambridge based "Luminarium Dance Company" to create a piece with choreographer Kimberleigh Holman. The piece entitled "Experiment III- Jazz on Jazz" featured Jenn on trumpet within a jazz trio along with a trio of dancers.
In August 2010, Jenn received a scholarship to attend the Domaine Forget International Music and Dance Academy's "Jazz session", directed by Tiger Okoshi.
In June 2010 Jenn received a grant from the Chelsea Boys and Girls Club of Boston to present a one week artist in residency culminating in a final performance with a quintet of Berklee musicians and the boys and girls club students.
Jenn plays with numerous groups throughout the Boston area, including the Omar Thomas Large Ensemble, the Florencia Gonzalez big band, the Beantown Swing Orchestra, and more. She is constantly working on developing her own numerous original compositions and recently recorded 5 tracks at the Record Company with her group JA + 9. With players from all over the world, it brings many individual sounds and talents together to form a contemporary instrumental ensemble with a lot to say.
